Background: James, or Jay as he prefers to be called, was born and raised in Tree Hill. As an only child he found he was alone fairly often, when his parents – both partners in a highly successful business in Charlotte, NC - went away for meetings. This fact was something frequently cited by therapists as the reason for Jay’s acting out.
When he hit his teens Jay started to get into trouble more and more often as a desperate bid to get his parents to pay more attention to him. He started to smoke and drink, as well and play up in school and became friends with a few older kids who were into smoking and drinking as well as a few other, less legal, things. It was during this time that he became friends with the rebellious Lauren Newton, something her parents have never liked and are yet to forgive her for.
Constantly in trouble at school and with the police his parents eventually gave up on him and, at the age of 16, James moved out of his parents house and into his own apartment using money he took from both his college fund and stolen from his parents bedroom. He works at the local supermarket stacking shelves in order to subsidise his living costs.
CHARACTER
Physical Appearance: James’ appearance is far from conventional. His hair is matted into dreadlocks and he is heavily modified, with stretched earlobes and a septum piercing. Luckily for him his career ambitions are to either be in a band or become a tattoo artist as he could never look professional. He is fairly tall at 5’11 and thin, a result of his lack of nutrition from living alone and love of skating. He always looks a little scruffy, with dirty clothes.
Likes: Skating, music, hanging out, art.
Dislikes: Being told what to do, homework, school, lessons, authority, police, jocks.
Strengths: James is a brilliant musician and a very talented drummer, having a part and being one of the founders of Lauren Newton’s band. He is also an artist, and a talented one at that, specialising in colourful and bold patterns and designs. His other talents and strengths including skating and being able to drink most people under the table.
Weakness: James has a very short fuse when it comes to authority. If someone tries to tell him what to do or starts to yell at him he gets very angry quickly and begins yelling back, often getting him into trouble with the police and teachers. He is also lazy and doesn’t try in school, leaving him with poor grades (something Lauz tries to help him with) and often in trouble for uncompleted homework.
