It was early in the morning. The grocery store had just opened as Reese made it to the door. He was supposed to pick up bagels and eggs on his way home from school the day before, but had forgotten yet again. His attempt to buy the food and get home before his parents woke up was probably not going to happen, but the attempt had to be made.
The bell rung just as he entered, the cashier giving him a warm smile and a kind, "Good morning."
"Morning," Reese replied, not really even noticing her. He walked through the aisles, already had picked up the eggs and bagel, but decided to check the place for anything else they may need back at home.

"Let's see, toilet papers check, alchohol check, sanitizer check....." Shanae mummbled as she pushed the push cart blindly, looking at her scribbled list. "Tuna... what the hell? Are you kidding me mom? Tuna?!" she asked the paper as she shooked it violently, but nevertheless she grummbled as she grabbed the can of tuna from the shelf beside her.
"Tomatoes..." Shanae said once again as she walked off on her own, leaving the cart behind. Her eyes were busily searching while her feet continued to walk, but suddenlt she bumped into someone and cursed slinetly to herself.
"I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed,

Reese struggled to keep the bagels from falling to the floor. sadly, he did drop them, but was able to catch them again before they hit. He looked up at the girl who had bumped into him. "New girl," was all he said. "Didn't expect to be meeting you in the fruit and vegetable section of the grocery store, but it'll do. I'm Reese."  |

"I'm so sorry!" she said once again.
Shanae smiled sheepishly at 'Reese' and nodded her head. "I'm Shanae, pleased to meet you," she sadi with the nod, "yeah, it is wierd," she agreed with a chuckle.
"Are the things alright?" she pointed at the bagels in his arms

"Yeah, bagels are tough. They should be fine...Either way, I dont care, because they're not for me," Reese laughed. "So when did you move?" he asked, looking her over. 'Shes rather cute,' he thought to himself, grinning.

"Stop sulking Skye!" The sharp voice of Amy Mitchell echoed down the aisle as the teenager and her mother made their way through the shops. "You're not going to that concert and that's final. It's too far away and it's on a school night."
"Aw but mom!" The florida twang was unmistakeable as the duo moved closer. "Look Becky said..."
"Yes and Becky was the reprobate who introduced you to Wayne or Zane or whatever the hell he was called."
"It was Dane mother and he was a nice guy!"
"Oh sure for a wannabee criminal.. look this concert may be the defining moment of your youth, but we've just moved here and I'm not going to let you blow off school!"
"It's not fair!" There was a stamp of a foot and Skye moved away. "You don't understand anything!" With a flounce of her head the young girl called Skye stomped away from her mother and pushed past the two chattering teens.

Shanae smiled in relief that he wasn't hostile to her than he thought he would.
"Just a few days ago," she waved her hands. "Most of the people i have met here have stayed here long enough to tell who is new and who is not, so i'm guessing you're not new?" Shanae asked but then darted her attention at the girl who pushed her way through them, sending her falling backwards unexpectedly. She landed onto the hard, cold floor as she looked with her wide shocked eyes at the girl. Shanae hated when people purposely knock her off her feet, "hey, watch it!" she snapped, still on the floor.

"Yeah, I've basically lived here all my life," Reese grinned. He watched Skye move past the two and knock Shanae off her feet. He tried to catch her in time, but sadly she hit the floor. "Are you ok?" he asked urgently, offering her his free hand. He looked up at skye, "Hey, what was that for?"

Shanae huffed as she gladly took the offering hand without hesitation.
But as she looked at Skye further, she saw irritation that would mean that she wasn't pushing them for her own pleasure, but because something had upset her. Shanae checked herself and sighed, "I'm sorry for snapping," she said in a controlled vioce, clearly meaning it.

"Hey I'm sorry!" Instantly contrite, Skye moved forward. "I didn't mean to knock you over."
"Skye Amber Mitchell!" The voice sounded loudly from the other end of the aisle. "What have you done now." Amy walked forward with and exasperated look on her face.
"I apologised... "
Amy's face softened slightly. "Alright, I have to get some vegetables, you can have a look round. Make friends and meet people." She squeezed her daughter's shoulder and moved off.
"I'm really really sorry!" Skye said again, coming out of her irritation.

Shanae smiled, knowing her intinct was right.
"It's alright, at least you didn't mean it, if you did... we would've had a serious problem right now," she grinned at 'Skye,' "I'm Shanae by the way and you must be Skye Amber Mitchell, wow that's one long name to say," Shanae laughed.
"I'm sorry for snapping though," she grinned her sheepish grin again,

Skye glanced up and watched her mother walk down the end of the aisle. "Well she did drag us here because she didn't like my boyfriend." She said with a bitter note to her voice.
"She says its because of dad's job, but i know better!" She pushed her hair from her face and smiled.
"But that's enough about me! What about you guys? are you at the local school or what?"

"Well, i'm actaully new probably like you," Shanae grinned as she tucked a stray strand from her face, "and now i'm not completely friendless," she added with a chuckle.
"Mums are usually strict... it's one way they can show you they love you," Shanae smiled at the direction where Skye's mother disappeared.

"I'm a local," Reese answered simply. "Well hopefully your mom will calm down with the guy thing. Most of us here are good guys, so your chances of finding one that you like and can still bring home to mom are pretty good," he chuckled.
