Different; the rise of the academies…
[/color]With the rise of the X-Men came the rise of the mutant academy. They started springing up all over the world, taking in those who were considered abnormal – those with powers – and nurturing them. Teaching them everything they needed to know about themselves and the world around them, and helping them to hone their powers. Suddenly Professor Xavier’s Institute wasn’t so special any more and the number of students passing through the front doors each year started to decline. Mutants were finding new schools, those closer to home, those in more exotic locations, those whose teachings were radically different.
Finally the Xavier Institute closed its doors for good. It’s students and professors disappearing off to new locations and Professor Xavier himself disappearing into retirement, never to be seen again.
It was now left to the new academies to keep up the legacy the X-Men started…
Katima Abram is the headmistress of one of these academies. After being plucked from the streets at the tender age of 15 and pulled into the world of the Xavier Institute for the Gifted, she feels it her duty to continue the professor’s good work. Twenty years on and aged just 35 she runs one of the most successful mutant academies in the world. Situated on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean and built completely from scratch with no government ‘special branch’ funding Katima turned the academy into a success on her own, offering a wide range of ‘normal’ subjects as well as mutant based ones.
She is well known for her genial nature and open admissions programme for the school, currently accepting any student of age who applies.
But with the greater number of academies has come a rise in the number of rebel groups forming. Some are calling it a herald of a new battle between mutants. But are they right?
And if war does come, which side are you on?
Are You Different?
